Need any more reasons to love Thandie Newton of Westworld? Check out the details for her upcoming directorial debut.

Westworld season 3 is still some time away, but Thandie Newton is keeping busy nonetheless. And every time we think that she couldn’t be more perfect, she outdoes herself. What has been a five-year journey for Newton is finally becoming a reality–production on her directorial debut!

That’s right, our wonderful Maeve of Westworld, is all grown up and getting comfy in a director’s chair (she also wrote the script). The movie is an indie young adult adaptation of a novel Newton read with her daughters.

She’s not giving up many details about the project including the name of the movie. However, her eldest daughter was the one who initially made the comment that the novel would make for a great film. Mama Newton took that to heart and got hard to work on making it into a reality.

The Westworld star wasted no time in finding out who had the rights to the novel and got extremely lucky. It turns out she knew the producer and had previously talked about working with her. After some convincing (we’re sure it didn’t take much), Newton wrote out a draft but didn’t reveal that she wished to direct as well.

Fast-forward five years and Newton is all set to direct the movie! Naturally, time has been very limited for Newton who has been working on Westworld as well as other projects. But she can finally catch her breath (at least until Westworld season 3 production starts), and tell the story of three African-American girls.

Newton hopes that the casting process will be completed before March of 2019 when production for season 3 will begin. As for who will star in the movie, Newton believes the right people will naturally get involved, whether they’re big stars or not.
