Tomorrow’s season two finale will be a whopping 90 minutes and has so much to cover that we can’t even begin to fathom just how they will pull it off. One thing is for sure, everyone’s final destination is the Valley Beyond, and what exactly is about to go down there is well beyond our understanding.

But let’s dive into the biggest theories this season has given us! And remember to share yours in the comments below!

William is a host

This has to be one of the biggest talked about theories of the season, and the last couple of episodes have given us a better understanding of whether or not this may be true. It appears, at the very least, that William is starting to think he is a host, although it is probably unlikely.

In episode 9, he digs deep into his arm in what seems to be him looking for the port that all hosts have. But the scene cuts before we can know for sure, so perhaps in the finale more light will be shed on this moment. William/The Man in Black is having an existential crisis because he has shot his daughter and is now questioning his own reality.

Going into the season two finale, we are interested to see what actions William takes and what it could potentially mean for his existence if he is indeed–a host.

A sea full of dead hosts–part of Charlotte or Dolores’ grand plan

The season two premiere of Westworld revealed a body of water full of dead hosts–including Teddy. Now, this could mean multiple things as we head into the finale but here are some thoughts to ponder over as we discuss.

More from Winter is Coming

There is definitely something going on with Charlotte, and her intentions aren’t exactly clear. Our sixth sense tells us that she isn’t on the side we think her to be on, and the sea full of dead hosts could be how she goes on to take over Westworld.

Using the same code that was implanted in Clementine could be precisely how Charlotte gets all the hosts to kill themselves, and eventually drown when the dam breaks. This could give her the upper hand in winning the host revolution–but why exactly she would want that is what we’re curious about. Is she truly on Delos’ side? Or could it be possible that she is #TeamFord?

And if not Charlotte, then perhaps Dolores has something to do with how the hosts end up dead in the water. If you recall, Bernard was heard whispering, “I killed them”. Could it be that Dolores is inside of Bernard’s head, and feels she is the reason for hosts meeting their untimely end? Maybe, just maybe.

Maeve will enter Bernard’s mind

Okay, so let’s think about this for a second. After the penultimate episode, it became clear that Ford gave Maeve the ability to jump into other host’s mind–i.e. entering Akecheta’s mind to speak to her daughter. Furthermore, we just might see an epic showdown between Maeve and Clementine since they both now have the most badass abilities in all of Westworld.

So, maybe Maeve and Clementine will face-off, and Maeve will attempt to eliminate Clementine and then move her mind into Bernard’s to protect herself from the flood we know is coming. Oh my, so yet another possibility of who has taken over Bernard’s mind. This would certainly explain why Bernard is so off in the multiple timelines we see him in.

Perhaps, Maeve–is “the passenger”. Damn, thoughts on this?

The code

So, we keep hearing about the code, and the Forge, and guests’ DNA and information being stored throughout the second season of Westworld. But why exactly is this a big deal, and what does it mean for the finale/future of the series?

We learned last week that the hats worn by guests are actually how the minds of guests are mapped out, examined, and explored. Pretty creepy, right? It also explains why the hat is such an integral part of the opening sequence.

All this time, the assumption has been that gathering guest information will allow the creation of hosts from the minds of humans, but what if that is not actually what is going on here? Perhaps, Ford meant to control humans by using their own brains against them.

This could be why Ford was able to speak to William even after his death, and to an extent control him. Could humans become the puppets of hosts? Could this be where the story is going? And with Dolores heading straight for the Forge and perhaps knowing about Ford’s potential goal, she would literally gain control of every guest that has ever visited Westworld. Uh oh.
