According Tessa Thompson from Westworld, women will rule the second season of HBO’s breakout hit.

Westworld  has one of the most talented ensemble casts on television, but more than that, they some of the best female characters we’ve seen in years. Sure, the women of Westworld – both host and human alike – have suffered many hardships. However, by the end of the season, they had become the heroes of the show.

As we approach the show’s second season, it has become clear that the women of the show will play a huge part in the future of the series. Dolores (Evan Rachel Wood) and Maeve (Thandie Newton) have practically taken center stage, and their journey has only just begun. In fact, one of the show’s stars has confirmed women will rule Westworld Season 2, and that it’s going to be amazing.

Westworld

introduced Tessa Thompson’s character, Charlotte Hale, about halfway through Season 1. Sure, she was a bit late to the party, but she quickly asserted herself as a savvy Delos board member.

In an interview with Elle at the Emmys

, Thompson talked about the future of the show, and how the female characters are stepping up in a major way:

"“It really is a season where I think women are king. I think they rule the world in the park this season. It’s kind of all about the women and I think it might be a very feminist show as a matter of fact. Particularly for the women that play hosts on the show, because you see them as sort of objects, like Thandie Newton’s character who works in a brothel and can be had whenever people want her. This season you see her taking that entirely back and she’ll have anyone that she wants.”"

Thompson’s comments aren’t surprising given Maeve and Dolores’ arcs in Season 1, but it’s still amazing to hear. Her comments regarding Maeve are particularly intriguing, given her rise to power in the back-half of Season 1. Sadly, we still don’t know exactly how the women will rule Westworld Season 2, but we can’t wait to see how everything plays out.
