Anthony Hopkins is impressed with his younger self

Anthony Hopkins had an adorable reaction on Twitter to his CGI younger self on this week’s episode of Westworld.

In Westworld episode 3 “The Stray” we see a younger, much younger, Ford working on early models of the hosts. The younger Ford appears during a flashback as Ford is telling Bernard about the early days of Westworld and his mysterious partner Arnold.

Obviously when showing Ford over thirty years ago the Westworld creators had two choices. They could cast a younger Ford, or they could use CGI to make a younger Anthony Hopkins. They decided to go with a CGI anthony Hopkins and honestly, it looks a lot better than most of the aged up or down characters I’ve seen on TV.

It looked so good in fact that Anthony Hopkins himself was impressed. The veteran actor took to Twitter to give his approval of the CGI creation.

Anthony Hopkins can be charming as well as menacing.

These types of CGI tricks can either look fantastic or terrible, so it’s really nice to see it work so well in Westworld. While this was the first time we saw a young Ford, it probably won’t be the last. We still don’t know the full story on Ford’s mysterious partner Arnold or the critical failure Westworld suffered thirty years ago. This means more scenes with a younger Anthony Hopkins are probably coming in the episodes ahead.

Ford was obviously reluctant to talk about what happened to Arnold over thirty years ago because he didn’t tell him until now. Why would Ford be that nervous about Arnold’s fate if Arnold is dead? This if of course will add fuel to the internet theories about Ford, Arnold, and of course that critical failure.
